40 % OF CZECHS USE PAID VOD SERVICES. BUT NOT EVERYONE PAYS FOR THEM

3. 8. 2022
40 % of Czechs aged 15 to 69 use at least one paid service to watch TV shows, series and movies. They have access to multiple services but do not always pay for all the platforms they use, for example because they use shared access from their friends. The data comes from the Altmedia Index research for the first half of this year.

The data also shows that the market for paid VOD services in the Czech Republic should continue to grow, as 4% of Czechs who do not yet have paid VOD services plan to start using them in the next twelve months. In this case, the number of SVOD service users would grow to 42% in the next year.
"We conducted the research in March and May this year, so it is questionable how the high inflation rate and associated lower purchasing power will ultimately affect willingness to pay for video-on-demand services. The figures for the third quarter will probably show us that,"

says Pavel Müller, Research and Marketing Director at Atmedia.

Of the total number of user accesses to paid VOD services, 52% of them are paid for through so-called direct membership - users pay for these services directly to the service provider, for example by credit card or standing order. A further 12% are paid through pay-TV operators who offer VOD services alongside TV stations.

Atmedia Czech s.r.o. is the commercial representation of almost 30 thematic TV stations that have been operating on the Czech market since 2008. It deals with the sale of TV advertising and represents local and most international TV stations from TV groups such as AMC Networks, Discovery Communications, The Walt Disney Company, Sony Pictures Television and Slovak JOJ on our market.
