PRIMA’S MINISERIES WE ARE NOT A CULT IS MEANT TO BE FICTIONAL. THE CHANNEL IS ALSO CONSIDERING NEW EPISODES OF THE SERIES POLDA

Prima is preparing a mini-series entitled My nejsme sekta, which will focus on how cults operate. The result is intended to be a fictional story about cultism, rather than a description of a specific real-life case. In addition, Prima is also considering bringing back the series Polda.

The Prima Group, which is producing the mini-series My nejsme sekta for the prima+  platform – exploring the mechanisms by which cults operate and their influence on members – will not be reconstructing specific cases, but will present a fictional story inspired by a number of Czech and international cases. Jan Maxa, Director of the Content and Production Division at FTV Prima, made this statement to MediaGuru.cz. He was responding to a question about how Prima would handle the sensitivity of the subject and how prepared it was for potential criticism from people who might have been affected by such cases.

Maxa explained that the miniseries is being produced under the direction of screenwriter and director Andrea Sedláčková, who drew on publicly available sources, media reports, books and podcasts during its development. The series is set to focus on how even educated and ordinary people can, under the influence of a charismatic leader, become part of a closed group and take part in serious acts.

“The theme of the miniseries is the issue of cults in general. The result is a fictional, made-up story that captures the mechanics of cultism,” said Jan Maxa. Prima believes that the series will highlight the risks associated with manipulation and the workings of cults.

Alongside new projects, Prima is also considering the future of some of its established brands. According to Maxa, the channel’s management is in intensive discussions regarding a possible continuation of the crime series Polda. “Viewers love the series and would certainly welcome the return of David Matásek and other favourite characters in the new episodes,” he suggested.

By contrast, the relationship drama Kamarádi, which concluded its run on Prima last week, “needs a break”. However, the broadcaster has not definitively ruled out the possibility of a return. “Never say never; perhaps we’ll return to the series Kamarádi in the future,” said Maxa.

In future, Prima intends to position Wednesday evenings primarily as a slot for episodic crime dramas, which it describes as the most successful drama genre on the Czech market over the long term. Premium titles intended primarily for prima+ will only appear on linear television after a considerable delay and, as a rule, at different broadcast times.

The upcoming series Táta is currently in post-production. Both film festivals and international streaming platforms have expressed interest in it. “It is unlikely to be broadcast on prima+ until 2027, so television viewers will have to wait a little longer for Táta,” Maxa added.

The series Polabí will continue on Prima this autumn, entering a new phase with fresh storylines and characters.

Prima is also working on further projects for next year. Alongside new entertainment and reality formats, it is also preparing true-crime and true-story documentaries, new episodic crime dramas and premium miniseries. The Tuesday and Thursday slots on Prima will continue to be dedicated to relationship-based series.
