HBBTV ASSOCIATION UNVEILS NEW SYMPOSIUM FORMAT: THE “UNCONFERENCE”

15. 9. 202315. 9. 2023
The annual key summit of the connected TV industry, targeting platform operators, broadcasters, advertisers and adtechs, standards organisations and technology companies, will be co-hosted with Comunicare Digitale, an Italian association for the development of digital television. For the first time, the HbbTV Symposium conference will be split into a traditional format on the first day while the second day will host an format of unconference.

Unconference Day – November 29th: The unconference format is designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and meaningful connections among participants by encouraging active engagement and open discussions.

Coming after the first day of the Symposium, where a programme of keynotes, talks and panels will be offered, the unconference day will provide an opportunity to explore the topics from Day 1 in more depth or to consider other questions and challenges.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Prior to the event, participants and prospective participants will be invited to brainstorm around possible sessions, whether ones they would like to host themselves or ones they would like others to host. A Wiki will be available soon and can be used to post ideas once you have registrered. Posting an idea on the wiki does not guarantee that the session will take place – it still needs to be pitched at the event.

  • Opening circle – on the morning of the event, participants will be invited to pitch sessions and place them on the agenda. We will collaboratively create the agenda for the day, ensuring that the sessions are relevant and engaging for all participants.

  • Unconference sessions – during the sessions, held in parallel throughout the day, attendees are encouraged to actively participate, ask questions, and share their expertise. The session host should aim to foster a dynamic, interactive environment where everyone’s voice can be heard.

  • Session reports – every session host should nominate a reporter for that session, who will use a web-based form to submit a short report on the session. In addition to capturing the main points of the discussion, it is important for the report to clearly state any next steps to be taken on that topic – and who should take them!

  • Closing circle – at the end of the afternoon, we will reconvene for a closing plenary session to share insights from the unconference sessions and explore potential next steps or collaborations stemming from the day’s discussions.
