THE TV SET IS THE COMPETITIVE ARENA FOR HIGH QUALITY AV CONTENT

TV set viewing continues to dominate the majority of people’s video consumption. 

Across 2021, individuals spent on average 3 hours and 37 minutes per day consuming content on a TV screen – which accounted for 71% of total daily video content consumption.  Those aged between 16 and 34 on average spent 2 hours 15 minutes watching video content on a TV screen – 47% of their total daily video consumption.

Data shows that the majority of TV set viewing is to high quality, professionally produced, content with Broadcaster TV and Subscription VOD accounting for over 92% of viewing for all individuals.

Looking more closely at both elements, Broadcaster TV (which includes Live, Playback and Broadcaster VOD) accounts for the majority of TV set viewing for both demographics, commanding 80% for all individuals. This is closely followed by Subscription VOD which accounts for 12.6% of TV set video consumption for all individuals compared with 28.7% for 16-34s.

DVD accounts for a small portion of viewing for both demographics (less than 2%), whilst TV set consumption for YouTube has grown and accounts for 5.9% for all individuals.
