The Prima Group is expanding its television portfolio with a new sports channel, Prima Sport, which will launch on 17 August. The media group has confirmed previously unofficial reports that the new channel will replace the existing Sporty TV.
The new channel is being launched following an agreement with Perinvest Group and will build on the foundations of Sporty TV, which was previously broadcast nationwide by České Radiokomunikace. Sporty TV had been operating since 2024 and had established a strong position by broadcasting more than thirty different sports. It brought viewers coverage of competitions that had previously been largely absent from Czech television screens. Prima Sport is now also available on Digital Broadcasting’s DVB-T2 multiplex 24.
“With the launch of Prima Sport, we are opening a new chapter in the Prima Group’s sports broadcasting. We are building on the high-quality work of the Sporty TV team, whilst also offering an even wider range of live broadcasts, studio programmes and original content. Entering the standalone sports broadcasting segment is part of our long-term strategy to invest in high-quality content and offer it across both television and digital platforms,” said Lukáš Kubát, CEO of the Prima Group, on the launch of the new project.
“Sporty TV’s growth has exceeded our expectations and confirmed that the path we chose was the right one. The use of modern technologies has enabled us to push the boundaries of sports broadcasting and give a platform to sports that would struggle to make it onto screens under the traditional television model. Bringing this project into the Prima Group is a logical step that will create scope for the further development of sports broadcasting,” said Tomáš Petera, owner of Perinvest Group, commenting on the agreement.
