Czech Television wanted to secure the rights to the Wimbledon final, but was outbid by its rival, Prima.

Over the past week,Czech Television had been in talks to secure the broadcasting rights for Saturday’s women’s singles final at Wimbledon, which will ultimately be contested by Karolína Muchová and Linda Nosková. However, it was unable to secure the rights.

In a statement on social media platform X, it said that it had made every effort to secure the rights, but that another broadcaster had ultimately succeeded with a higher bid. “Despite ČT’s best efforts, the rights were secured by another broadcaster, which submitted a significantly higher financial offer,” said Czech Television. It also thanked viewers for their understanding.

The rights to Wimbledon are held by Warner Bros. Discovery. The sub-licence for Saturday’s final was ultimately secured by the Prima Group, which will broadcast it on its main channel. The broadcast will also be available simultaneously on Eurosport 2.

The final between Karolína Muchová and Linda Nosková will begin on Saturday at 5.00 pm, with live coverage starting at 4.30 pm.
