The Prima Group has already unveiled the logo for its new channel, Prima sport, which is currently in the pipeline, and has announced that it will launch “very soon”.
The Prima television group will soon be expanding its programming line-up with a new free-to-air channel called Prima sport. This is confirmed by a promo that viewers saw today during the Wimbledon tennis final, in which Karolína Muchová and Linda Nosková faced off.
The trailer entices viewers with “more excitement and live coverage from various sports”. Brief shots feature the VBTV volleyball platform, referring to international tournaments on both indoor and beach courts. Further sequences show ice hockey player Roman Polák in his Vítkovice jersey and floorball players during the Prague Super Final. The trailer is also interspersed with footage of raucous celebrations by football fans.
The Council for Radio and Television Broadcasting has already granted the new project the relevant licence. The licence for terrestrial and online broadcasting is valid for twelve years, covering between fifteen and twenty-four hours a day. According to information from MediaGuru.cz, the new channel is set to be established through a merger with the existing Sporty TV station. With this move, Prima would immediately acquire not only the broadcasting rights but also the existing personnel and technical infrastructure.
The entry of the Prima commercial group into the sphere of free-to-air sports broadcasting represents a new alternative on the domestic market to the established ČT sport channel. Representatives of Prima have not yet disclosed the exact date of the official launch of regular broadcasting on Prima sport. However, Prima is likely to announce it at its press conference on the autumn programme schedule, which usually takes place at the end of July or beginning of August.
