This year’s Wimbledon women’s final, which featured an all-Czech line-up, was the highlight of Saturday’s television schedule. Thanks to its live broadcast, Prima achieved the highest audience share on Saturday.
The Wimbledon women’s final between Karolína Muchová and Linda Nosková, which was broadcast on Saturday on TV Prima’s main channel, became the most-watched programme of the entire day. According to official ATO data, the match itself, which ran from around 17:00 to 20:15, was watched by an average of 764,000 viewers aged 15 and over, with a share of almost 36.95 per cent. Among men in the same target group, the audience share reached as high as 41.56 per cent. At the match’s peak, roughly between 18:45 and 19:15, viewership climbed to around 900,000.
TV Prima’s all-day share on Saturday 11 July reached 31.39% in the 15+ audience group, making Prima the channel with the highest market share on that day. Its share during prime time (18:00–23:00) even exceeded 39 per cent. Prima also capitalised on the interest in tennis during its evening programming after 20:00, when it scored highly with a repeat of the series Zákony vlka.
Prima secured the broadcasting rights for the tennis match through a sub-licence with Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns, amongst others, Eurosport – the channel that holds the broadcasting rights for this tennis tournament. Prima was able to offer significantly more for the rights than Česká televize, which was also bidding for them. The women’s final was also broadcast by Eurosport 2. Prima, which even skipped its Main News programme on Saturday to air the match, used the occasion to promote its forthcoming channel, Prima sport.
The broadcast began with a special pre-match studio segment hosted by Jiří Šlégl, with commentary provided by Ivan Petr and three-time Grand Slam doubles winner Lucie Hradecká. “The broadcast of the Czech Wimbledon final symbolically opened a new chapter in the Prima Group’s programming ahead of the imminent launch of the sports channel,” said Prima.
