While the number of people watching paid or unpaid videos on the internet has not changed much this year compared to last year, the number of digital TV viewers on the internet has increased by half a million.

Digital TV on the internet (e.g. Oneplay or T-Mobile TV) was watched by 38% of the population aged 16 and over this year. This is according to new data from the Czech Statistical Office (CSO). It shows that year-on-year use of digital TV on the internet in the 16 population has increased by almost twenty per cent (18%) to 3.3 million people.

39% of the Czech population (3.4 million people) watched programmes on sites operated by providers of regular TV stations (e.g. iVysílání, Prima) or stations that operate only on the internet (e.g. Stream) this year. This is a comparable figure to a year ago. This figure only includes watching programmes that are free of charge. These sites were most popular among 16 to 44 year olds, with half of all people aged 16 to 44 watching programmes on them.

The figure for the number of people watching programmes on pay-per-view channels such as Netflix or HBO Max has not changed much over the year, according to updated CSO data. This year, 41% of people watched them. Most people watching these channels are in the 16-24 age group (64%), with the proportions falling as age increases. Among people of different educational backgrounds, the highest share was recorded among university educated people. Of these, 57% watched videos on paid platforms.
