GWI STUDY: GLOBAL MEDIA LANDSCAPE

9. 6. 20239. 6. 2023
GWI has unveiled its new report on global media consumption.

According to the company's data, the use of smart devices (TVs, wristbands and watches) is on the rise, kick-started by a global pandemic. As of 2019, ownership of these devices has increased by 41%. Another interesting finding is watching TV through gaming devices, which is growing 15% year-on-year.

The evolution of time with media can be seen in the next graph, with the younger generation spending more and more time with podcasts, where entertainment and comedy formats are the most popular genre.

The report also compares media habits between continents or age groups.

For example, in Generation Z, more than half of study participants (53.1%) watch YouTube daily, and while in 2022, people under 18 spent an average of 67 minutes a day on YouTube globally, we are now seeing a 20% year-on-year increase.

The report also includes, for example:

  • How Generation Z is trying to return to a more carefree lifestyle.

  • How they feel about their finances.

  • What social platforms Gen Z youth are using.

  • How they seek out new brands and products.

  • How they communicate and how they want to be communicated with.

The report is available here.
