The Prima Group has entered into a long-term partnership with Sweden's Viaplay Group and will expand its prima+ streaming service with the Viaplay Select brand from July.
The Prima Group has entered into a long-term strategic partnership with Viaplay Group and will expand its prima+ streaming service with the Viaplay Select brand from 1 July. This will offer Czech viewers more than 200 hours of premium European content during the first year, including a number of titles in exclusive premieres. Selected programmes will also appear on Prima's linear channels. The announcement was made on Monday morning by Viaplay.
Viaplay Select brings Nordic crime dramas, dramatic series, true crime documentaries and sports formats from across Europe. Among the main attractions are the Norwegian thriller Furia, the Swedish crime series Jana – Marked for Life based on Emelie Schepp's bestseller, and the documentary The Big Decision about football star Erling Haaland.
According to Viaplay, the collaboration will strengthen the position of the prima+ platform on the Czech SVOD market and enable Prima to offer its viewers a wider and more exclusive selection of international content. For Viaplay, this is another step in its international expansion: Viaplay Select is now available in more than 30 countries.
‘Viaplay sets the bar for European storytelling, and we are delighted to be able to offer this content to both prima+ subscribers and our TV viewers. This is an important step in the development of our premium international portfolio,’ said Prima's programme director Alex Ruzek.
The Viaplay streaming service is available in all Nordic countries, as well as in the Netherlands and Poland. The Viaplay Select brand reaches audiences around the world through partner platforms. The group also operates TV channels in most of its markets and radio stations in Norway and Sweden. Viaplay focuses on local stories ranging from sports to films, series and music. Viaplay Group shares are traded on the Nasdaq Stockholm stock exchange. Viaplay's shareholders include the Czech group PPF, owner of TV Nova, the main commercial competitor of TV Prima. PPF holds a 29.3% stake in Viaplay.
