From the new season, Oneplay Sport will expand its ice hockey coverage to include live broadcasts from the University Ice Hockey League. In the 2026/2027 season, it will broadcast a total of 28 matches, with the first broadcast scheduled for 8 October.
The University League comprises twelve teams from Czech universities and has seen growth in attendance and fan interest in recent years. According to the organisers, last season’s matches were attended by more than 100,000 spectators for the first time. The record was set by the university derby, the Battle of Prague, which was watched by 9,319 fans. The UK Kings Prague won the championship title for the third time in a row.
Through this new content, Oneplay Sport aims to reach a younger audience as well as traditional ice hockey fans. In addition to the matches themselves, the broadcasts will include features on the university teams, events at the stadiums and stories about players combining their studies with top-level sport.
“The University League has grown significantly in recent years and it is truly remarkable what has been built around it. It attracts thousands of young fans to the arenas, features major derbies, fierce rivalries between universities and, above all, has a unique energy of its own. It is the younger generation we want to connect with more closely, and the University League offers us a natural way to do so,” said Marek Kindernay, Head of Oneplay Sport.
The Oneplay Sport editorial team, which also handles broadcasts of the Tipsport Extraliga, will be involved in producing the coverage. The channel plans to draw on its experience from producing the top domestic league, whilst also aiming to preserve the unique atmosphere of university ice hockey. For selected matches, it also plans to have a television studio on site.
The inclusion of the University League follows on from further changes to Oneplay Sport’s ice hockey coverage for the 2026/2027 season. From 23 September, it will begin broadcasting a new regular ice hockey show, Krosček, hosted by Jan Homolka. Oneplay Sport is available as part of the Oneplay Extra Sport and Maximum packages and offers more than 400 live broadcasts from the Tipsport Extraliga during the season.
