What you will find in the article:

  • New sports news program launching called Sportovní zprávy.
  • Coverage includes interviews and stories about athletes and club staff.
  • Program will air on Prima sport, CNN Prima News, and main channel.
  • Shorter version will feature in evening news and focus on results.
  • Flexible schedule to prioritize live sports events during broadcasts.
The Prima Group will add a new programme, sport news Sportovní zprávy, to its broadcasting schedule. In addition to results coverage, it will offer interviews, stories about sporting talents and people working behind the scenes at clubs, and will appear not only on Prima sport, but also on CNN Prima News and in TV Prima’s main news programme.

With the launch of the new thematic channel Prima sport, the Prima Group will also expand its news offering. The schedule will include the new Sportovní zprávy programme, which will appear not only on the sports channel, but also on CNN Prima News and, in a shorter format, in the evening news on the main TV Prima channel.

According to the Prima Group’s Director of News and Current Affairs, Martin Švehlák, launching a dedicated sports news programme was a natural step in preparing the new channel. “Sport is part of news coverage, so it was clear from the outset that we also wanted to prepare Sportovní zprávy,” he told MediaGuru.cz on the occasion of the presentation of the new Prima sport channel.

On Prima sport, Sportovní zprávy will have a running time of around twenty minutes. The editorial team is planning morning, midday and evening editions, although their exact broadcast times will not be fixed. The schedule will adapt to live sports coverage. “Live broadcasts always take priority on a sports channel. We cannot interrupt a hockey or football match halfway through because of the news. The times will therefore remain flexible depending on the schedule,” Švehlák explained.

The programme will not consist solely of results coverage. Alongside an overview of domestic and international sporting events, regardless of whether they are broadcast by Prima sport, the editorial team also wants to feature information from athletes’ social media accounts, interviews with young talents and stories about the people working behind the scenes at sports clubs.

“We want to give plenty of space to talented athletes as well as to the people without whom sport could not function. For example, we are preparing a segment called Srdcaři, which will feature equipment managers, volunteers and other people working behind the scenes at clubs. Alongside that, we will introduce young athletes from a wide range of disciplines,” Švehlák said, describing the concept.

In the future, Sportovní zprávy could also include a specialised sports weather forecast. This would provide information tailored to specific outdoor activities, such as cycling or hiking.

A shorter version of Sportovní zprávy, focused primarily on results coverage, will also be included in the programming of CNN Prima News.

A sports segment will also appear in Prima’s main evening news block, which consists of Hlavní zprávy, Krimi zprávy and Showtime. It is currently being decided whether Sportovní zprávy will follow immediately after Hlavní zprávy or only after Krimi zprávy. “We expect to start broadcasting Sportovní zprávy in the autumn. On the main channel, the programme should run for 5–6 minutes,” Švehlák added. The entire news block lasts one hour and ten minutes. Finding a few additional minutes should not be a problem. “We can shorten Hlavní zprávy by two minutes, Krimi zprávy by one minute, Showtime by one minute, and that gives us the space we need,” he said.

One of the presenters of the new programme on Prima will be Lucie Šlégrová, wife of ice hockey player Jiří Šlégr. She announced her new role on Instagram over the weekend.
