Spain’s victory over Argentina in the final of the 2026 World Cup became the most-watched World Cup match in the history of Spanish television broadcasting. An average of 15.7 million viewers watched the match, and more than 20 million people tuned in to at least part of the broadcast, with an audience share of 87 per cent.

The World Cup final between Spain and Argentina attracted a record television audience in Spain. The match, in which Spain were crowned world champions on 19 July, was watched by an average of 15.7 million viewers, with an audience share of 87.1 per cent. This is according to preliminary data from Barlovento Comunicación, based on measurements by Fiftyfive.

The figure includes aggregate data from the channels La 1, La2Cat, Teledeporte and the DAZN streaming service. The statistics cover viewership during both regular time and extra time. A total of 20.1 million people watched at least part of the match or the subsequent extra time (Spain has a total population of just under 50 million).

According to Barlovento Comunicación, this is the most-watched World Cup match in the history of television broadcasting in Spain. The final also ranked second among the country’s most-watched television events. Only the semi-final of the 2012 European Football Championship between Spain and Portugal achieved higher viewing figures.
