The O2TV app has ceased to function permanently in recent days, shortly after the official termination of this long-standing television service. Users are now completely dependent on the new Oneplay platform, to which the customer base has been gradually migrated.
On LG TVs with the WebOS operating system, the app displays a graphic screen featuring presenter Zorka Hejdová, former national team goalkeeper Petr Čech, and actor Oskar Hes, known from the series Král Šumavy. The screen also features a QR code that allows users to install the new Oneplay mobile app and switch to this service.
In contrast, the Android TV app, whose functionality was last registered by the MediaGuru editorial team last week on Monday, July 14, now only displays a "Server Error" message and no longer loads any data. The original service has therefore permanently lost access to its original content, marking the end not only of O2TV, but also of the O2 Videotéka service, where movies could be rented for a fee, some even as part of premium windows.
The migration process to Oneplay has been fully completed, which means the demise not only of the O2TV brand itself, but also of the thematic channels, including O2 TV Sport and O2 TV Fotbal, whose broadcasting was terminated in March. The change also affected other additional services, such as the customer promo channel O2 TV Info. The entire transition thus meant not only a technological change, but also a fundamental shift in the pay TV and video-on-demand market in the Czech Republic.
Last weekend, the new Oneplay service, which has been the subject of criticism in internet forums, was hit by complications in the form of a DDoS attack. A large number of requests were deliberately sent to the platform's servers with the aim of temporarily shutting it down. The case reported by CNN Prima News, which is part of a competing media group operating the prima+ video library. The incident caused a service outage lasting several hours.
The entire process of terminating O2TV and transferring customers to Oneplay symbolically marked the end of the era of original internet/IP television in the Czech Republic. For users, this means not only a change of platform and the way they watch programs, but also the need to get used to the new interface and features that Oneplay brings.
