The Oneplay internet service now offers three Nova Group thematic channels enhanced with audio description for a better experience for users with visual impairments. Subtitles can also be turned on or off.
When you open the "Sound and subtitles" menu on the selected channel Nova Action, Nova Gold or Nova Lady, a new sound preset will appear. In the Sound section, there is an option called For the blind (AD), which activates real-time audio description of the scene. Audio description (referred to as "AD") provides a detailed verbal description of visually important information and events. Oneplay has these programs located at the end of the TV channel list.
In the Subtitles menu, you can choose one of two options: Off or Czech. The Czech version of subtitles makes it easier to watch content, especially for deaf and hard-of-hearing viewers. By default, subtitles are usually turned off, but users can turn them on manually at any time. This option is also useful in noisy environments or when watching programs with the sound muted. Subtitles adapt to the broadcast content and display key dialogues and sounds.
This innovation represents a significant step forward in the accessibility of television broadcasting on Nova channels. Until now, audio description was only available on the group's main channel. Making Nova Action, Nova Gold, and Nova Lady channels accessible with audio description and Czech subtitles expands viewing options for diverse audiences. The settings are intuitive and can be selected directly in the app. Other operators should follow suit in the future.
