Nova TV has entered into a partnership with the non-profit initiative Nesekni se, which is dedicated to preventing psychological manipulation and raising awareness about the influence of self-proclaimed healers. This collaboration is linked to the filming of the six-part Oneplay Original series Kutnohorská kauza, inspired by a real-life case involving a healer from Kutná Hora.
The initiative was founded by Šárka Reinbergrová, the daughter of university lecturer Irena, who was a long-time follower of the Kutná Hora healer and was convicted of his murder. The organisation aims to highlight the mechanisms of manipulation and help people recognise the warning signs before they fall under undue influence.
“Our aim is to ensure that things do not go that far for other families,” said Reinbergrová. According to her, the initiative is based on the family’s personal experience and aims to share insights into how manipulative relationships develop and what consequences they can have.
The activities also include the video podcast Nesekni se. The opening episode featured Lucie Strachová, author of the book Zmanipulovaná, who spent several years in the Kutná Hora group. The next episode offers the perspectives of journalists Valerie Fišrová and Martin Štorkán, one of the creators of the Czech Radio podcast series Stoupenci. Subsequent episodes will feature psychologists, lawyers and people close to Irena. Her interview is scheduled for 1 December. New episodes are due to be released every fourteen days.
The six-part series Kutnohorská kauza is currently being filmed by Oneplay, directed by Tereza Kopáčová and Adam Martinec, based on a screenplay by Miro Šifra. Pavla Tomicová will play the lead role of Irena. The story follows the family of a university lecturer and her efforts to help her mother, who has fallen under the influence of a self-proclaimed healer.
“We believe that raising awareness at an early stage can protect other families from manipulation, the consequences of which are often irreversible,” said Oneplay’s creative producer Michal Prokeš. The series is being produced for Oneplay by Barletta, a production company run by Matěj Chlupáček and Maja Hamplová.
Nova similarly combined drama with public awareness in the series Monyová, which addressed domestic violence. According to the broadcaster, the ROSA intervention centre recorded an increase of more than 85 per cent in calls and emails from victims at the time. The Oneplay website also features a directory of contacts for free support. This has recently been expanded to include the topic of romance scams in connection with the series Sériový manžel.
