FREE TIME OF HALF OF CZECHS HAS CHANGED, SPORTS AND VIDEOS LEAD THE WAY

27. 5. 202527. 5. 2025
More than half of Czechs are satisfied with the amount of free time they have. However, this is least true for the 35-54 age group, who feel they have less time for their hobbies due to work and family commitments, according to data from a ResSolution Group survey.

Most Czechs are satisfied with the amount of free time they have. One-fifth of the Czech population (19%) say they are completely satisfied, and another 37% are somewhat satisfied. Seniors (55+) are most likely to be completely satisfied with their free time, with this share reaching 34%. On the other hand, people aged 35–54 are most often dissatisfied with the amount of free time they have. According to the survey, they feel most caught between work and family. This is shown by a survey conducted by ResSolution Group for MediaGuru.cz.

Changes in the way people spend their free time over the last two years are acknowledged by roughly half of the population: 27% report more leisure activities than before, while 24% report fewer. For half of them, the amount of free time has not changed. However, it is not just about time, but also about content: 21% of people do more different activities than before, 24% do fewer, and 14% do the same but different types.

The most common leisure activities are sports and hiking, followed by watching films, series or videos (10.8%). These are the two activities that users ‘most often engage in’ in their free time. Others include meeting family and friends, listening to music, spending time on social networks, reading books, and travelling and going on trips. They find sports and exercise, meeting family or friends, and travelling the most fulfilling.

Half of the population spends a maximum of two hours a week on their hobbies, while the other half spends more than three hours a week.

The most fulfilling leisure activities for Czechs are sport and exercise (17%), followed by spending time with family and friends (11%) and travelling (10%). And what would they like to change? The most common wish is to exercise more (43%), especially among women, while a third would like to have more free time (32%). One in four would like to reduce passive activities such as watching TV, and a quarter would like to organise their time better.

Work prevents 69% of respondents (who are dissatisfied with the amount of free time they have) from devoting more time to their interests. Another factor is family responsibilities, which restrict 55% of Czech internet users. 29% are restricted by finances.
