On Tuesday 18 August, Vodafone activated a new multiplex on its cable network featuring twelve standard-definition channels. With this move, the company is preparing for the possibility of switching off its own DVB-T multiplexes, which it has previously compiled itself.
All channels from the Nova, Prima and Televize Seznam media groups are available unencrypted. Viewers can therefore tune in without any additional equipment or decoder cards. All they need is a standard cable tuner, which makes it easier to watch programmes on another device in the home, such as a second television.
“The SD version of Seznam TV has been temporarily included in the service in connection with technical modifications to the cable network. As part of these, we are preparing to distribute selected programmes via DVB-C, which is why both HD and SD versions are temporarily available for some channels. The same applies to selected programmes from the Nova and Prima groups,” Vodafone spokesperson Lenka Đo told MediaGuru.cz.
The activated multiplex currently includes the channels Nova Krimi, Nova Fun, Nova Lady, Prima Love, Prima Max, Nova Action, Nova Cinema, Prima Cool, Prima Zoom, CNN Prima News, Televize Seznam and the Vodafone 100 promo channel in HD resolution. The broadcasting of these channels in standard definition is directly linked to the technical adjustments currently underway. The aim of these adjustments is to prepare the network for a new method of distribution broadcasting.
