Watching videos remains the most popular form of online entertainment in the Czech Republic. However, its share has not increased over the past year, and the same applies to listening to music online. Conversely, the importance of gaming is growing, as is users’ willingness to pay for this type of entertainment. This is evident from data from the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ) for 2025 on the behaviour of the internet population aged 16 and over.
Last year, 67.2% of users watched videos online, which is only slightly less than the previous year (67.9%). Although this has long been the most widespread activity, its share has remained virtually unchanged year-on-year. Listening to music has also seen no growth, and has even declined slightly year-on-year from 58.8% to 56.2%.
More significant changes are evident in gaming. The proportion of people who play games online rose from 32.7% to 34.8% over the year. Gaming is significantly more common among men (42.1%) than among women (28.1%).
A significant shift is also occurring in paid services related to gaming content. The proportion of users who spend money on games has risen from 6.4% to 8%, representing one of the most dynamic growth rates among the activities monitored. Here too, there are significant differences between the sexes – the proportion stands at 14.5% for men, whilst for women it is only 2%.
However, the willingness to pay for music is also growing. Paid music streaming recorded a year-on-year increase from 15.9% to 17.9%. By contrast, paid viewing of films and TV series remains stable, or has fallen slightly from 42.1% to 41%. It remains, however, by far the most widespread paid entertainment activity on the internet.

News consumption is among the most common online activities, but its paid form is stagnating. The proportion of people who read news online rose from 74% in 2024 to 81.1% in 2025. However, interest in paid news is not increasing – it is used by 4.3% of users, which is actually slightly less than last year (4.6%).
Podcast listening also remains stable, with 46.1% of the internet population having experience with it. This form of content is evenly distributed between men and women.
The data suggests that users’ attention is gradually becoming more divided among other forms of digital content, particularly games, for which there is also a growing willingness to pay.
About the survey
The Czech Statistical Office monitors detailed data on individuals using selected information and communication technologies (ICT) through a separate annual statistical survey. The survey is conducted in the form of an interview using a tablet. The 2025 questionnaire was completed by 5,800 people aged 16 and over from 4,000 households. The survey collects information only from people living in private households. The results are extrapolated to the entire population aged 16 and over.
