Television, together with streaming services, is an important part of every Czech's life. It is used by 87% of the population, with 44% searching for streams. Even so, people are not always satisfied with what is on offer, according to a study by the Brand Success research agency Ipsos.

Each generation finds something different missing from television. While Gen Z would like to see a wider range of reality shows and watch programmes in their original language, Gen Y would like more children's programmes, films and international series. Generation X is bothered by failure to adhere to broadcast times, while Baby Boomers miss quality programmes for seniors and New Year's Eve programming.

In general, Czechs would appreciate more programmes focused on financial literacy, scientific topics or adventure, sci-fi and fantasy genres. At the same time, they would like to see higher quality comedy and entertainment programmes.

Among the new programmes that have appeared on television screens and streaming services recently, the series Smysl pro tumor scored highest with domestic viewers, and was most successful with Baby Boomers. The series was accompanied by an awareness campaign, a podcast and interviews with cancer patients from the Fuck Cancer association. People appreciated the interesting topic, the good idea and the meaning, and they also liked the fact that it was available for free on Vysílání.
