CNN Prima News launches weekend edition of morning show Nový den in February.
Starting in February, news station CNN Prima News will expand its morning show Nový den to include weekends. It will air every Saturday and Sunday from 5:55 to 9:00 a.m. In addition to regular news coverage, the weekend editions will offer more space for lifestyle topics, culture, sports, cooking, and tips for spending free time. Weekend broadcasting will begin on Saturday, 31 January 2026.
While the weekday broadcasts of Nový den focus primarily on current news, politics and service information, the weekend version will be more relaxed. It will focus on trends in technology, motoring, gaming, fashion and hobbies, and will provide inspiration for active leisure activities. The programme will also include cultural tips, an overview of weekend events and new thematic sections. A weekend cooking studio with recipes presented by well-known personalities is also in the works.
The expansion also includes new presenting duos. Lenka Špillarová is returning to the screen after maternity leave and will form a presenting duo with political reporter Jan Socha. They will make their first appearance on 21 February. The second weekend duo consists of reporters Monika Rusová and Adam Křivánek, who will appear in this role for the first time on 14 February. The existing presenters of Nový den will also take turns in the weekend broadcasts.
"On weekends, we want to offer viewers a calmer start to the day, more space for interviews, inspiration and topics that don't get as much attention during the week. News remains an important part of the programme, but we will supplement it with content that will help viewers recharge their batteries for the days ahead," said Milan Blažek, editor-in-chief of Nový den.
The weekend Nový den is produced in collaboration with the editorial teams of other CNN Prima News and Prima Group programmes, including Prima Česko, Showtime and hobby formats.
