NOVA AND PRIMA DON’T WANT TO WRITE OFF THEIR SERIES BECAUSE OF HOCKEY

Commercial television stations Nova and Prima are adjusting their programming on the days when the Czech hockey players are scheduled to play their evening matches at this year's World Cup.

Czech Television will begin broadcasting matches from this year's hockey World Cup, which is being held in Sweden and Denmark, on Friday May 9. It will again carry all scheduled matches live from the event, on CT sport and CT sport Plus channels. In total, it will broadcast 64 matches.

The Czech team will play its matches in Group B in Herning, Denmark. The group matches will be played from 9 to 20 May. The knockout and place matches will take place from 22 to 25 May.

Reviews and films will replace the premiere episodes

The first match featuring the Czechs will take place on Friday 9 May at 16:20, when they face the Swiss national team. In view of the expected increased interest in watching hockey broadcasts, especially those with Czech participation, commercial TV stations are adjusting their schedules and dropping the premiere episodes of their series titles. This applies to the broadcasts that will take place in the main TV time, from 20:20.

The Czechs will play three matches in the regular group in the evening time: on Sunday, May 11, Monday, May 12 and Thursday, May 15. Nova has therefore decided to save the premieres of Vraždy v kraji (Sunday, May 11), Specialisté (Monday, May 12) and Jedna rodina (Thursday, May 15) to be broadcast at these times. Instead, it will bring reruns of Kriminálka Anděl (Sunday), Specialisté (Monday) and the foreign film Aladin (Thursday).

Prima, on the other hand, does not want to "write off" its Kamarádi series, which will be replaced by the Czech film Spolu on Thursday, May 15. In the other prime-time slots, it will keep the premiere of Hořký svět and a rerun of Chalupáři.

In the case of afternoon matches (from 16:20), the programmes of Nova and Prima will remain unchanged, i.e. with regular programmes in the case of weekdays and film offerings in the case of weekends.

The main channel CT1 keeps its programme in force.

In the elimination matches then hangs a question mark over the programme on Thursday 22 May, when two quarter-final matches are scheduled from 20:20. If they involve Czech hockey players, further changes can be expected. If the Czech national team successfully defends last year's triumph, changes would be likely on Sunday 25 May, when the winner of this year's World Championship will be decided from 20:20.

Czech Television has announced that due to the increased interest in coverage of the hockey World Cup, it will deploy contiguous programming from 15:45 (on three days from 12:00) until almost midnight.

Information on the World Cup, including articles, videos, podcasts and analysis, will be provided by CT on the CT sport website on the WSC 2025 page. Viewers can watch all matches on the ctsport.cz website, the CT Sport mobile app, the CT Sport Plus programme and the special World Cup HbbTV app. Recordings and highlights of individual matches will also be available on all platforms.
