Filmouka. Průvodce světem filmu a audiovize is a unique publication that combines elements of a playful comic book textbook and popular educational literature, introducing young readers to the world of film from all angles in an entertaining way. Its emphasis on interactivity, activities, colourful texts and graphics, and links to a multimedia website make it a comprehensive resource that is suitable for both individual reading in the children's room and group work in the classroom.
"The approval clause from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports is definitive confirmation for us that we have truly created a textbook. And what's more, it is of such high quality that our highest educational institution recommends it as suitable for teaching. All that remains is to hope that as many pupils as possible will learn with it. It certainly deserves it," says Petr Pláteník, editor of the book and member of the Association for Film and Audiovisual Education, which is behind the idea and authorial processing of Filmouka.
"We were convinced of the quality of Filmouka from the very beginning. Obtaining the approval clause only confirmed this. Whether this means the holy grail for the textbook remains to be seen. Primary school headteachers can purchase the textbook and lend it to pupils for teaching purposes. However, the attitude of teachers is still key. They must embrace audiovisual education, because most of their pupils' communication today is audiovisual, and it is good to cultivate it and learn from each other," adds Aleš Prstek, director of Palacký University Press, which published the textbook and is its main distributor.
Those interested can purchase Filmouka at UP Publishing House e-shop and at good bookshops. More information about Filmouka is available at www.filmouka.cz. It also includes a free methodological guide for teachers.
Through its regional ambassadors, the Association for Film and Audiovisual Education also offers workshops and sample lessons for teachers, which demonstrate how film and the audiovisual world in general can be taught in schools in an entertaining way (either independently or as part of other subjects).
