The reality show takes place on a farm where contestants, cut off from the outside world, take care of animals, complete tasks and compete against each other for a prize.
The reality show Farma Česko will premiere on the Oneplay platform on Monday, 23 June. It will be broadcast four days a week from Monday to Thursday, filling almost the entire working week. The first episode will appear a day later on the affiliated TV Nova channel, starting on Tuesday, 24 June. It will thus be broadcast from Tuesday to Friday in late prime time from around 9:45 p.m. The show will be hosted by Vilda Šír.
For TV Nova, Farma Česko will be one of the key original programmes for this summer season. It will be broadcast throughout the holidays.
The reality show is based on a return to the way of life of a hundred years ago. Contestants will have to survive without electricity, running water or other conveniences of modern civilisation. They will have to repair an abandoned farm and keep it running by cultivating the land, caring for animals and doing manual labour.
Each week, the contestants will elect a farmer of the week from among themselves, who will take over the leadership and divide the tasks among the other contestants. This leader will also select two ‘servants’ who will be responsible for specific duties. The ‘servants’ will have more difficult conditions – for example, they will sleep separately from the others, without a bed. At the end of the week, there will be a duel in which the contestants will compete in demanding disciplines. The loser will leave the farm, while the winner will continue to fight for the main prize. The contestants will be assisted by a farmer who will give them advice on how to cope with the tasks.
The game is scheduled to last two months, with a prize of 1 million crowns awaiting the winner. Some well-known faces are also expected to appear on the show.
Farma is a new reality show on TV Nova. However, its sister channel in Slovakia, Markíza, has been broadcasting the show since 2011. It is the longest-running reality TV show in Slovakia. It is based on the original Swedish show ‘Farmen’.
"It's a format that has an incredible ability to connect viewers with something deeply rooted – the land, nature, tradition and, at the same time, human emotions. It is this authenticity that appeals to viewers: they watch familiar or new faces cope with a world where there are no filters or the comforts of everyday life," said creative producer Samo Jaško.
The editorial team at MediaGuru.cz visited the farm in central Bohemia where the Czech version of the show has been filming since May and confirmed that the contestants will face challenging conditions, from worrying about securing food and shelter to hygiene and completing tasks. They will find themselves in a deserted place, exposed to the pitfalls of nature and the difficulties associated with completing tasks. The strategies that individual players choose to succeed in the competition will also play a role in how things unfold.
