ESTIMATE: CONSUMPTION IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC WILL GROW TO ALMOST 4 BILLION BY 2027 CZK 4 BILLION BY 2020

8. 9. 2022
The Czech pay video-on-demand market is forecast to more than double by 2027, reaching just under CZK 3.8 billion.

The volume of the Czech pay video-on-demand (SVOD) market could grow to CZK 152 million by 2027. The market for SVOD will reach USD 2.5 billion by 2020, i.e. approximately CZK 3.8 billion. This is according to a new estimate on the development of the SVOD market in Central and Eastern European countries by 2027 from Digital TV Europe.

We add that the estimated volume of CZK 3.8 billion would mean about 1.6 million subscriptions by 2027, i.e. a penetration of about 36% of Czech households, at the assumed average subscription price of CZK 200 per month.

The report forecasts up to 38 million subscriptions across the CEE region, an increase of more than 80% compared to the end of 2021 (22 million). If Russia and Ukraine are excluded, subscriptions in the 20 countries of the region will triple to 24 million by 2027, compared to 9 million at the end of 2021.

SVOD revenues in the CEE region are forecast to reach a total of $2.95bn by 2027, up from $1.60bn in 2021 (+84%). Poland will be the only country to generate more than $1bn in 2027. The Czech market is forecast to be the fourth strongest in terms of total volume behind Poland, Russia and Romania.

However, there is still plenty of room for growth beyond 2027, as only 16% of TV households in the region will subscribe to at least one SVOD platform by 2027. Excluding Russia and Ukraine, this share will double from 11% in 2021 to 24% in 2027.

The size of the Czech pay video on demand (SVOD) market was estimated at CZK 1.7 billion last October by TV Nova's head of digital Daniel Grunt. By 2027, the Czech SVOD market could more than double.
