CNN PRIMA NEWS CONTINUES IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC, WINS CONTRACT FOR ANOTHER FIVE YEARS

CNN Prima News concludes its first five-year period with a market share of over 2%. It has signed a contract with CNN International for another five years.

The Prima Group has announced the extension of its license agreement with CNN International, under which it operates the CNN Prima News news channel. The new contract is for five years. The contract extension was announced by CEO Marek Singer and representatives of CNN International at the CNN Prima News conference entitled Money, Money, Money, held on Wednesday at the company's headquarters.

"I am very pleased that we were able to negotiate another term and I am glad that we have another five-year contract," said Prima Group CEO Marek Singer.

According to him, CNN Prima News, which celebrates its fifth anniversary at the beginning of May, has achieved its target 2% audience share after five years of broadcasting. Its current share is 2.36% in the 15+ audience group. He also emphasized the multiplatform nature of the project, which he said successfully connects the television and online environments.

It is precisely through the combination of television and online that CNN Prima claims to have a higher reach than its competitor ČT24. (However, ČT24's share of the television audience market alone is double that of CNN Prima News, with 4.63% in March, compared to 2.44% for D15+, source: ATO-Nielsen).





CNN Prima News wants to enter the next five-year phase with a new digital news structure and a focus on a multiplatform approach. "There is a huge amount of media providing news today. The key will be the form and manner in which we deliver content to viewers," said Martin Švehlák, director of news and journalism. CNN Prima plans to expand its content across formats, from video podcasts and audio versions via the web and social networks to books and print media.

Editor-in-chief of television news Tomáš Vojáček confirmed that the channel will remain focused on "hard news," i.e., current and serious topics. "News reporting can only be done fully or not at all. We will cover the upcoming parliamentary elections to the greatest extent possible," he said.

According to editor-in-chief Tomáš Večera, it was crucial for the digital platform CNNPrima.cz to create a functional ecosystem for content distribution. "Strong cooperation with the development team helped us," he added. The CNN Prima News website is now one of the six largest news websites (source: NetMonitor, March 2025).
