TV Nova has announced that for this year’s elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic it prepares the most extensive election coverage in its history. It includes a series of pre-election broadcasts, special discussions, two main debates and an election broadcast while votes are counted.

“The date of 2 April 2021 is crucial for our election broadcast – on this day TV Nova news will move to the election mode. This means several key obligations for us both internally, e.g. all reporters, editors, producers and chief editors must have TV Nova’s Election News Code signed by that date, and externally with respect to politicians and our viewers,” said Kamil Houska, TV Nova’s News and Journalism Director.

Nova wants to apply a single approach to all parties, movements and coalitions. Among other things, this means that parties that form any coalition are considered to be a single entity and only one voice can speak on its behalf – the representative is selected by the coalition on a case-by-case basis.

For its news programmes, specifically reports within its news coverage, TV Nova will address political parties, movements and coalitions that will achieve at least 3% of votes in the ongoing election estimates, always at least in one election research. Surveys of the following agencies are taken into consideration: Kantar, STEM, CVVM, Median, SANEP and Ipsos.

Interviews with chairpersons of political parties and movements that were elected to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in previous parliamentary elections will be hosted by Bára Divišová in her show Napřímo as part of TN Live, a live stream on tn.cz, in September and October. From 20 September to 5 October, there will be a regular section in Televizní noviny mapping crucial political and social topics, such as transportation, social security, culture, health care, foreign affairs or environmental protection.

The first of the two upcoming pre-election debates will be held on Thursday, 7 October from 5 pm to 6.30 pm. It will be a discussion of representatives of political parties, movements or coalitions that will receive over 5% on average in the per-election research made by the above-mentioned agencies based on a predefined key in the period from 1 August to 3 October 2021 and, at the same time, are not in the top three. Debates of the leaders of the top three parties, movements or coalitions will be held on the same day starting at 8 pm. As an exception, TV Nova’s prime-time show will start at eight.

The following day, Nova will air a special morning show and a news special on the start of elections from 1.55 pm.

TV Nova plans continuous special coverage for 9 October from 1 pm containing presentation of results, interviews with guests, and live views of the regions and electoral wards. “We will monitor everything on a number of spots, engage many of our Prague and regional editors and use the TN Live platform in addition to our TV broadcast,” added Kamil Houska.
