Sunday's mixed biathlon relay race became the most watched biathlon broadcast in the history of Czech Television. The station announced this based on data from official electronic audience measurement provided by the Association of Television Organisations.
During the first weekend of the Olympic Games, 1.759 million viewers watched the broadcast on television and via internet stream, representing a 54.61% audience share. The four Czech competitors, Vítězslav Hornig, Michal Krčmář, Tereza Voborníková and Markéta Davidová, ultimately finished in eleventh place.
Czech Television also recorded record ratings for snowboarding. On Sunday, snowboarder Zuzana Maděrová won the Czech Republic's first gold medal at this year's Winter Olympics on the slopes in Livigno. The parallel giant slalom final was watched by 1.614 million viewers, representing a market share of 51.35%. This is the highest viewership ever recorded for this discipline in the history of Czech Television.
The high viewer interest was rounded off by the men's 5,000-metre speed skating event, which was watched by 1.346 million people, or 44.20% of viewers. Czech competitor Metoděj Jílek won a silver medal on Sunday in his first Olympic Games appearance.
