Live coverage of the Czech national team’s group matches at the World Cup will be provided by both ČT sport and Nova. However, most of the matches will be broadcast outside prime time.

The Czech team’s matches at the World Cup on the American continent will be broadcast simultaneously by ČT sport and Nova Action. Both channels will also broadcast the opening match, the final and the third-place play-off in parallel. Each channel will broadcast the remaining 50 matches exclusively. This is according to their statements to ČTK.

The football championship takes place from 11 June to 19 July in Canada, the United States and Mexico. The Czech Republic secured its place by defeating Denmark in the play-offs. In Group A, it will face South Korea, South Africa and Mexico.

However, due to the time difference, viewers will have to get up early, andlivebroadcasts of the Czechteam’smatches will be shown outside prime time, with the exception of the match against South Africa.

Broadcast times for live coverage of the Czech team’s matches (ČT sport):

  • Friday 12 June from 4:00: Czech Republic v South Korea

  • Thursday 18 June from 18:00: Czech Republic v South Africa

  • Thursday 25 June from 3:00: Czech Republic v Mexico

Czech Television, just as it did four years ago, has sold a sub-licence to broadcast half of the matches to its rival, Nova. Both broadcasters must offer all matches on free-to-air television channels, which viewers can access free of charge. Czech Television will broadcast them exclusively on the ČT sport channel, whilst the Nova group will broadcast them mainly on the Nova Action channel, with selected attractive matches also shown on the main Nova channel.

“The main channel for the championship will be Nova Action, which will offer half of the matches exclusively, whilst the other half will be broadcast by ČT sport. The Czech national team’s matches will be broadcast simultaneously on Nova Action and ČT sport, as will the opening match, the final and the third-place play-off,” said Jakub Eichler from Nova.

According to Patrik Vacek from the press department, ČT will offer more than half of the most attractive World Cup matches, including studio analysis, expert commentary, insights from leading football experts directly from the venue, and reports from the production teams. “Viewers can also look forward to an expanded information service on ČT sport Plus,” he added.

Česká televize and Nova also shared broadcasting rights four years ago during the World Cup in Qatar, which took place without Czech participation. There were fewer matches at that tournament. Česká televize exclusively broadcast 32 matches, Nova 18 matches, and the two channels jointly offered viewers 14 matches.
