With the start of the summer holidays, Czech television stations are launching their summer programming schedules. Watching television is a popular summer activity, making it an effective medium for reaching a wide audience throughout the year. Although TV viewership drops to its lowest levels of the year during the summer months, Czech TV viewers aged 15+ still spend an average of over 3 hours a day watching TV, which is still a very high number. This is according to official TV viewership figures for July and August in the previous two years. During the summer, viewers prefer films and series more than during other months of the year, with sports broadcasts also appearing among the most popular genres, as the summer season features major sporting events that attract large audiences (the Summer Olympics, Wimbledon, the Tour de France, and UEFA matches).
